Hip indie/electronic band the Ting Tings consist of the duo Jules De Martino (drums/vocals) and Katie White (vocals/guitar/bass drum). The band formed in 2006 whilst based at the trendy arts studios in Islington Mill, Salford. The duo met whilst Katie was still in the girl group TKO, short for Technical Knock Out. De Martino and White went on to form Dear Eskiimo, who signed to Mercury Records, but then split up. With a healthy distrust of the music industry, the two went on to form The Ting Tings, and with a distinctly DIY attitude the Ting Tings started playing private parties around Salford. Legendary producer Rick Rubin was one of the people who was desperate to get into one of their shows in Manchester. The band signed to Switchflicker and released their first single \'That\'s Not My Name/Great DJ\' which was picked up by 6Music. After airplay and a notable Glasto 2007 performance, the band signed to Columbia and re-released the singles \'Great DJ\' and \'That\'s Not My Name\' which went to Number 1 in the UK singles charts, followed shortly by their long awaited debut album \'We Started Nothing\' in May. \'We Started Nothing\' received a great amount of critical acclaim and reached number one in the UK album charts.
